Hi,
I have a problem with connecting my ISDN BRI interfaces to Belgacom PSTN. Layer2 cannot be established.
Interface configuration
BRUSSELS#sh run int b0/2/0
Building configuration...
Current configuration : 127 bytes
!
interface BRI0/2/0
no ip address
isdn switch-type basic-net3
isdn incoming-voice voice
!
end
show isdn status
BRUSSELS# sh isdn status
Global ISDN Switchtype = basic-net3
ISDN BRI0/2/0 interface
dsl 8, interface ISDN Switchtype = basic-net3
Layer 1 Status:
ACTIVE
Layer 2 Status:
Layer 2 NOT Activated
Layer 3 Status:
0 Active Layer 3 Call(s)
Active dsl 8 CCBs = 0
The Free Channel Mask: 0x80000003
Total Allocated ISDN CCBs = 0

Telco Switch does not answer to IDREQ message with IDASSN message.
Instead it sends SABME and DISC messages endlessly.
Q.921 debug (during a try to make a call)
BRUSSELS#isdn test call int b0/2/0 0048502737523

I do not see an answer to IDREQ with IDASSN message as well
ISDN switch does not respond to the request for TEI neither when the interface is initialise nor when placing a call.
When I call the number assigned to my lines from my mobile I got busy signal, and I did not notice any activity at Q.921 layer.
Belgacom claims that from their side everything is ok.
It seems to me that IDREQ messages do not reach ISDN switch. Maybe the problem is caused by cables?
(However L1 is active and the switch sends Q.921 messages)
I connected the BRI interface to Siemens NT1 with a cable that I received with a router directly from Cisco.
Belgacom NT1 is Siemens STK-413 900 30.
Thanks in advance,
Ignac

Hi Ignac,
Try to add the following under your BRI interface:
interface BRI0/0/1
no ip address
isdn switch-type basic-net3
isdn point-to-point-setup
isdn incoming-voice voice
isdn sending-complete
isdn static-tei 0
I'm not sure if you will need the "isdn static-tei 0". I had to add this one on our ISDN lines cause they are in cascade.
Best regards,
Peter

OK, I got it!
Lucliky, it was not a cabling problem.
Belgacom uses static TEI assignment, you can find some tips on that here:
http://www.belgacom.be/web/proto/about/pdf/BGC_D_48_0202_30_01_E%28ed10%29.pdf
I put a working configuration below:
!
interface BRI0/2/0
no ip address
isdn switch-type basic-net3
isdn point-to-point-setup
isdn incoming-voice voice
isdn static-tei 0
!
end

Hi Peter,
Looks to me like your tips were right on the money
+5 points for this.
Cheers!
