Hi experts,

My customer has a publisher running on :

Product Ver  : 8.0.3.20000-2

OS Ver       : 4.0.0.0-43

MCS7816I5-K9-CMD2

Version 8.5

HW Platform       : 7825I4
Processors        : 1
Type              : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU     E8400  @ 3.00GHz
CPU Speed         : 3000
Memory            : 2048 MBytes
Object ID         : 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.746
OS Version        : UCOS 4.0.0.0-43

He ordered another server to be installed as a subscriber, but the version of the installer is different, this is read from the CD cover :

CUCM 8.5-BE/SME/UNITY CONNECTION

running on :

MCS7816I5-K9-CMD2

He lost his installer CD for the publisher, what should be done, can he upgrade the 8.0.3 to 8.5 first, so that the subscriber can join?

regards,

paul

Hi,

Yes that would be a viable option and technically is fairly simple to do. However the customer would need an appropriate software maintenance contract in place to make this acceptable from a legal standpoint.

Just get 8.0.3 of the software download section. You could even make that a bootable iso.

Bear in mind making the non bootables ISOs froms CCO into bootable is not supported for any production environment.

Hi Paul,

which hardware is this as provided by you in CUCM cluster ?

Version 8.5

HW Platform       : 7825I4
Processors        : 1
Type              : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU     E8400  @ 3.00GHz
CPU Speed         : 3000

for CUCM 8.0(3) and above , u require 4GB of DRAM.

regds,

aman

Hi all,

Thanks for the reply.

1) when I go to software download site, I only see this, which one is the installer, my customer has the contract :

Downloads Home

Hi Paul,

You need to download but this would be an upgrade patch , not the bootable as already mentioned by Mr. Jaime

regds,

aman

Because real bootable media needs to be ordered via PUT, thats the only supported way.
The suggested procedure is not supported, you might try it only for tests, sake of curiosity, or labs on which there is no support required.

Hi all,

I guess I will upgrade the publisher to 8.5.

the publisher is using MCS 7825I4 running 8.0.3.20000-2.

the subscriber is using MCS7816I5-K9-CMD2 running on 8.5 (I can't find the exact version of the software on the CD) but based on the hardware compatibility matrix, I hope that it will be running on 8.5(1) that i will download and not those SU1-6, I haven't had a chance to go onsite to check:

Thanks a lot for the help rendered,

Hi Paul,

You can upgrade to UNRST version 8.6(2a) from your existing version on Publisher.

Also, if u have bootable DVD of 8.0.3.2000-2 , u can build your Subscriber and then , finally upgrade to 8.6(2a)

Even from existing version on Pub, u can go for upgrade to 9.x , provided u have valid UCSS and ESW contract.

can u share show memory count /show memory size from Pub since for 8.6 u would be requiring 4GB DRAM on 7825I4 even though it is shared in your first discussion?

regds,

aman

Hi Aman,

Thanks a lot for your advice.

My customer lost the bootable 8.0.3.2000-2 CD for the pub, so I have decided to do the upgrade. I have downloaded the RST version, are you saying I can only go for UNRST?

I will ask for the show memory count/show memory size and update you.

regards,

paul

Hi Paul,

any reason why u want to upgrade to RST version?

I was referring the release notes of Cisco call manager 8.6(2a)

The unrestricted version of Unified CM 8.6(2a) is available in limited markets only.

Be aware that after you install or upgrade to an unrestricted release, you can never upgrade to a restricted version. You are not even allowed to fresh install a restricted version on a system that contains an unrestricted version

for understanding on RST and UNRST version , please refer the DOC

Hi Paul,

If you are running a "Restricted" version of CUCM then stick with that path

The majority of CUCM builds do run as Restricted. Here's why Cisco came

out with Unrestricted versions and they probably don't apply to your situation.

Unrestricted Export Support (from release notes)

The restricted US export classification on Cisco Unified CM meant that

governmental and military customers in many countries could not employ

Unified CM in their networks.

In addition to the delay inherent in obtaining export licenses, products classified

as restricted by the Department of Commerce (DoC) carry a requirement to allow

US government representatives to demand on-site inspections at any time to

confirm that the product is being used in accordance with its licensed purpose.

This post-shipment verification (PSV) is unacceptable to many customers.

Additionally, some foreign countries maintain import restrictions which

prohibited Unified CM from being available to customers in those countries. Both

US export and foreign import issues stem from Unified CM support for strong

encryption of signaling and media.

Unrestricted Classification

Because Cisco has obtained an unrestricted classification from the DoC for a

version of Unified CM, beginning with Unified CM 7.1(5), both restricted and

unrestricted versions of Unified CM will be released in parallel.

From the good doc that my friend Aman provided (+5 "A")

Cheers!
