PVDM3 Limiting Conf/Xcode Resources

Morning,

First time poster on this board...be nice.

I have two 3945's that I'm configuring to replace a pair of 6506's that we currently use for carrier access.

I'm having an issue on one of them where the transcoding and conferencing resources are limited to  7 and 2 respectively, whereas the other gateway will let me do 16 for each (that's the spec written by the engineer who designed this, and he has since left).

Anywho, been through several troubleshooting steps, done quite a bit of stare/compare betweeen the two rigs, and not really coming up with anything. Any thougths would be helpful.

Can you post "show inventory" from both and "sh run" from both at least showing controller configuration and dspfarm profile configuration?

Chris

Sure...not including the controller info for now per them all being down at the moment...I don't have any configured or setup. Could that affect the dspfarm profile?

Yes, if you do not have pri-group configured then the DSPs have not been allocated to the controller, make sure you define your controllers first before assigning any DSPs to profiles as you may not have enough.

To get  most out of your DSPs I would recommend to ocnfigure the conference bridges with only G711 codecs and have G711 and G729 in transcoders, this way you will not waste as much PVDMs and most conferences are local using G711 anyway, if G729 participant needs to be included it will simply use a transcoder.

HTH, please rate all useful posts!

As a follow up to this post, the issue was bascially a lack of resources per the number of pri's that were configured for this gear.

The hw contains three pvd chips with a total of 384 dsp's. The design I was given called for a total of 16 t1 pri's to be configured, each one requriring 23 (or 24...not sure) dsp's for the pri group, which leaves 16 dps's (@ 23 ea per pri) leftover for conferencing and transcoding.

As far as I can figure out, conferencing requires 8 dsp's per session, so each pri-group that is removed off of a controller gives me back three conferencing sessions in my max sessions config.

I think that the original problem is that the 3945's were mirrored for pvdm's and their base config, but the 1st gateway contained an additional 4 port vwic and the associated pri's.

Chris, rodger your post on codecs. This is all 711....it was basic math that I was assuming someone else had done.

Thks.
