according to document <http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk652/tk698/technologies_configuration_example09186a00800a954d.shtml#ex2> i have been looking at example 2 is the service policy still required for rtp if command ip qos dscp cs5 media is still applied to the dial peer? I am troubleshooting a PSTN gateway and would like some clarification/explanation on what the ip qos dscp cs5 command achieves on my branch site router with call manager over wan link . Thanks

First, the doc you are using is just about marking. You also need one about queuing.
This link explains the command:
Once the traffic is marked, your QoS policies can use that marking to queue put the traffic into the right queue.

A media stream generated or received from/by the gateway, whose signalling counterpart is associated with that dial-peer will use cs5 as the marking for rtp stream. Cisco ip phones use ef for rtp stream and cs3 for control.
