QoS With Firewall Service Module (FWSM)

Hi,

Just a quick question.....

Just about to configiure QoS on a large campus for Voice. The Core switches have Firewall Service Modules (FWSM) installed so that each network segment is effectivley a DMZ with rules configured to permit/deny traffic flows between networks.

Does anyone know how QoS is handled through the Firewall Service Modules.?

Do they retain the DSCP values and pass them on or are they reset to zero.?

Many thanks

John

The FWSM includes many advanced features, such as multiple security contexts (similar to virtualized firewalls), transparent (Layer 2) firewall or routed (Layer 3) firewall operation, hundreds of interfaces, and many more features. any QoS that can be configured directly on the FWSM. With respect to traffic that has had QoS applied to it by an upstream device such as your MSFC, the FWSM does not do anything to alter those packets. The FWSM just passes those packets like any other regardless of whether the FWSM is in routed or transparent mode.

Many thanks for the reply and information. Much appreciated.

John
