"Migrate" / Upgrade from CCM 4.1.3 to 7.1

Hi All,

I have been through a number of documents about the Upgrade of 4.1.3 to 7.1, however most seem to indicate a "in-place" sort of upgrade.

I need some advice/documentation which details the step process of doing a parallel 7.1 build of CCM on another set of hardware and then migrating the users base from the 4.1.3 setup. My hardware is a bit suspect and could do with a spec upgrade to for this purpose.

1) Can it be done like this?

2) Where can I find some documentation for this sort of "migration".

3) Anyone done something similar ? And would like to share the experience?

Thanks for you help in advance.

Hi Lucky,

This is a supported and highly desireable method of Upgrading from the

older windows versions

Even with the new build of CUCM 7.x on a new box you can choose the Windows Migration option using the Data Migration Assistant (DMA). Just run the DMA on the old CCM 4.1(3) before you start and it will produce a .tar file that can be used to move the data across to the new version;

Import Windows Data

This option allows you to import database information from a Cisco Unified Communications Manager 4.x system by using a file that the Data Migration Assistant (DMA) tool produces.

Upgrading the First Cisco Unified Communications Manager Node

When you choose Windows Upgrade, the installation wizard prompts you for the location of the preexisting Windows configuration information that the Data Migration Assistant (DMA) tool created. See the Data Migration Assistant User Guide for more information on the DMA tool.

Step 1 - In the Windows Upgrade window, import data from a Windows version of Cisco Unified Communications Manager by choosing Yes

Upgrading to Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 7.1(2) from 4.x Releases

Hope this helps!

Re: "Migrate" / Upgrade from CCM 4.1.3 to 7.1

Rob,

Thanks for your post. It gives me somewhat a bit more confidence to proceed as planned. However, I am still concerned that there is so little documentation specifically to people wanting to upgrade using this "highly desireable method of Upgrading".

I am planning to create a Test plan and will drop in to let you /all know how it is going.

Until then Kind Regards.

Hi Lucky,

First off, you are most welcome

Here are some other excellent references, the first one in particular has some

excellent planning/strategy ideas for this type of upgrade (with new servers);
