Reducing broadcast traffic across flat layer2 VoIP network (SG300-50P switch)?

We have a Cisco SG300-50P small business switch. which is the physical backbone for our VoIP network.   Our Cisco CME/CUE router connects to one of the 1GbE ports on the switch, and all the phones are Cisco IP79xx models, connecting to the 10/100 ports (all configured as access ports).

I've noticed that there's a large amount of activity across all the ports on the switch (broadcast traffic?) so my question is why would the network be so noisy with broadcast traffic even when the phones aren't actively passing voice traffic, and what should I be doing to alleviate some of the excessive broadcast traffic that I'm seeing on this network?

Flashing activity lights tell you nothing about the nature of the traffic on your network. You need to break out WireShark and look at the traffic.
