Redundant QOS?

Just a quick question... not being a QOS guru or anything, am looking at one of our sites setup by someone else and trying to determine why you would use both Auto QOS on a port and:

mls qos trust device cisco-phone

mls qos trust cos

Wouldn't these be redundant, I mean doesn't the auto qos voip cisco-phone cover the same things?

Probably a simple question, but want to verify before I make any changes...

Thanks in advance!

Redundant QOS?

Hi Ken

auto-qos is a macro - nothing more clever than than really.

When you enter it on a port, it configures lots of global-level qos commands, and then on the port you entered it puts commands specific to whatever 'auto-qos' command you picked.

So if you enter auto-qos voip trust, it will put the mls qos trust cos command on there.

If you take off the mls qos command, you take off the qos setting. There's nothing to stop you breaking/improving the qos config after you have done auto-qos, the presence of the auto-qos lines just indicates that auto-qos was applied.
