Hi All,
i was running securityk9 evaluation license on my cisco router 1941, and ordered for permenant license but i didn't get it from my supplier.
the eval license has to be expired today but it transformed to RTU license and the IP SEC configuration is intact.
my question is, can i use the RTU license for next 2 years or shell i have to buy one permenant license?
i read on some web sites the it will work for 12 years, is it true.
Index: 6 Feature: securityk9 Version: 1.0
License Type: RightToUse
License State: Active, In Use
License Count: Non-Counted
License Priority: Low
Store Index: 0
Store Name: Built-In License Storage
when will this expires, if i reboot the router will it still works?
Thank you.......

Hi Rob,
this means Asif has to just pay for the security license.
My thought was that we need to generate the security licenses by using the PAK number and Serial number of ISR G2 router.

Hi Aman,
That's correct my friend, you just need proof of purchase in case of Cisco audit.
There is no license to actually load on the ISR.

Hi Asif,
Surprisingly,how this can happen.
you need to have permanent license which u need to buy but
I was referring the DOC which says about
RTU Releases
The IOS software releases to consider are categorized as follows:
• Preceding RTU
• Existing RTU
• Lifetime RTU
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/sw_activation/SA_on_ISR.pdf
what is the ISR G2 model and show version of router ?

Hi Asif,
I was referring the same link which I have posted which says:
Starting with Cisco IOS Releases 15.0(1)M6, 15.1(1)T4, 15.1(2)T4, 15.1(3)T2, and 15.1(4)M,
Evaluation licenses are replaced with Evaluation Right To Use licenses. Evaluation Right to Use licenses
automatically become Right to Use licenses after the initial evaluation period. Follow the steps detailed
in this section to activate an Evaluation Right to Use license
But I am also bit confused , how this can happen if you have not paid for Security Package?
Please check what do u get in output show version and show license detail after Eval period is finished?

Hi Asif,
I'll just add this note to the great info from my friend Aman (+5 "A")
These RTU licenses are not loaded on box and are strictly paper
licenses.
From the doc linked by Aman (above)
Right to Use Notification
When you order a license from Cisco, you will receive a Right to Use Notificaton. You may begin using
the licensed features upon receipt of the Right to Use Notification. Keep the Right to Use Notification
for your records as proof of your license purchase.
Right to Use License
Right to Use licenses are available on Cisco IOS Release 15.0(1)M4, 15.1(1)T2, 15.1(2)T2, 15.1(3)T,
15.1(4)M1, or later. These licenses are available on the honor system.
Cheers!
Rob

Thanks Rob and Aman for your precious suggestions.
according to Rob the eval license became RTU license now, so i don't need to load another license on router.
but my question is i don't have proof of purchase for the RTU license.
however i ordered a new license to my supplier which i can get any time, so do i need to load the new license or can i continue with this RTU license.
if i can continue with this RTU license then , can i request cisco for the transfer of new license to another router.
12-31-2013 11:13 PM
Hi Asif,
Since it is RTU license, so I do not think you would be requiring to load the new license.
as far as transfer of new license to new router is concerned, had it been RMA for faulty box, then, it makes sense for transfer of new license for replacement box else legally u cannot do that.
any suggestions would be welcome.
regds,
aman
