SIP gateway and SIP Proxy...

hi..

What is the difference between SIP Proxy and SIP Gateway..... pls anyone explain..

SIP gateway and SIP Proxy...

Hello Saravana,

Both the terms can be ambiguous depending on where they are being used.

A proxy generally talks SIP only ie both sides and acts as router for inbound and outbound requeste.

A gateway generally talks something other than SIP as well, such as PSTN gateway which allows calls to and from the PSTN which based on TDM protocol ie ISDN or SS7

you can refer for rfc 3261 more deep knowledge. above is the basic understand on these terms
