SIP Header User Agent Issue

Hi,

We integrate our UC560 with Microsoft Lync and are having a strange problem which we have logged with Microsoft, the issue I have is that they advise IOS needs to be 12.4 and above and even though we are running 15.1 they are not convinced!!

The reason they believe we are still on IOS 12.x is because our SIP headers user agent says we are, as below:

VIA: SIP/2.0/TCP 192.168.100.2:5060;x-route-tag="tgrp:ALL_T1E1";branch=z9hG4bK421A06

CONTENT-LENGTH: 0

DATE: Fri, 04 Nov 2011 20:55:25 GMT

USER-AGENT: Cisco-SIPGateway/IOS-12.x

TIMESTAMP: 1320440161

Does anybody know why the gateway shows up as IOS 12.x even though a show ver shows the below...

Cisco IOS Software, UC500 Software (UC500-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M), Version 15.1(2)T3c, SBTG Special
Small Business Support: http://www.cisco.com/go/smallbizhelp
Copyright (c) 1986-2011 by Cisco Systems, Inc.
Compiled Thu 09-Jun-11 13:03 by SBTG

ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 15.0(1r)XA, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Any help would be appreciated or if this is correct, does anybody know the official reason why it is like that (backwards compatibility or something similar) so that I can stop Microsoft using this as a reason as to why the Lync installation has an issue.

Many thanks for your help

James

Hi James,

You should get the right version come through in SDP header. Have you cofigured any SIP normalization to modify user-agent?

What device is this and what UA string to you see on Registers ? All the ones I see are 12.x ?!

Thanks James.

I agree with you, suggest you push Microsoft harder.

We can jump though this though by amending the UA string to something that's bigger than 12.X which we think will make no difference, but are happy to be shown wrong...

I've just done this on a UC540

voice class sip-profiles 100

!

request INVITE sip-header User-Agent modify "12.x" "15.x"

!

voice service voip

sip

sip-profiles 100

"

(you could apply on the dial-peer to Lync as a voice-class)

and the invite:

Hi,

It is a UC560 running CME 8.1 on IOS 15.1(2)T3c, as far as I am aware you cannot modify the user agent but I have just stepped through our config line by line as well as looked for various "user agent" related phrases and can find nothing on the server that would make it say 12.x.

I know the IOS is 15.1 as I tried some "new commands" that are only available in IOS 15.x and they worked so I am sure that this is an IOS 15 box.

Also... having looked at most of Ciscos documentation that has SIP traces in them they also have a user agent of 12.x so I think this is just normal behaviour.

Our issue with Lync is that when certain mobile phones (only out company phones) call a response group they will be placed on hold for eternity they hear the hold music but the response group will never answer, if you call from a non company mobile phone it is fine. All other types of calls from one of our company mobiles are fine (direct Lync DDI's as well as things like the conferencing centre) it is just when you call a response group.

Our CME has no specific configuration that could be making this and the fact that you hear the Lync response groups hold music makes me think that the issue is in Lync!

Any help would be greatly appreciated as Microsoft are trying to kick it back to Cisco and dealing with Cisco SBS TAC will be a nightmare as we will have the old "not supported due to it being CLI config" challenge!

Any help or suggestions anyone has would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

James

hi James,

In regards to your question of Lync integration with CME, Cisco CME does

not  officially support Lync yet, rather Cisco CME does support CSTA/MOC  OCS integration.

For your information, please take a look with the following links in regards to how OCS is integrated with CME.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,
