What is Cisco smallest router that can provide SRST. Currently we have a few different 2800 series. We are looking for a lower price solution for very small sites with less than 10 phones. But we need to have SRST.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps5853/ps8321/prod_qas0900aecd806c4def.html

Q. What is the Cisco® 1861?

A. The Cisco 1861, which is part of the Cisco 1800 Series Integrated Services Router portfolio, is a unified communications solution targeted at small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and enterprise small branch offices. This solution provides voice, data, voicemail, Automated-Attendant, video, and security capabilities while integrating with existing desktop applications such as calendar, e-mail, and customer relationship management (CRM) programs. This platform takes full advantage of business-class, proven unified communications technologies and supports flexible deployment models based on your needs-a wide array of IP phones, public switched telephone network (PSTN) interfaces, and Internet connectivity.

Core components include the following:

• Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express (CME) or Cisco Unified Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST) for call processing

• Cisco Unity® Express for voice messaging and Automated Attendant (optional)

• Integrated LAN switching with Power of Ethernet (PoE) support-expandable through Cisco Catalyst® switches

• Optional security with firewall, VPN, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), and intrusion prevention system (IPS) capabilities

Hi,

1861 is definitely the smallest SRST router supporting up to 8 users, however its a router whcih comes with CME/SRST + Unity Express. If you don't see any requirement for Unity Express in future I would suggest you to go for 2801 which suppors up to 24 phones in SRST. This will make sure that any future expansion doesn't require you to change the router.

Selection depends on your requirements.

For about half the price and only a handful of users, this is the way to go. And if you ever need to upgrade the site, you deploy a 2801 and recover this one to use in another small location.

They are a little more finicky to configure than the 2800s but once you get the hang of them they are not too bad.

If you do use this one, there is one command you need to use or the router will drive you insane --- CDP RUN!!!
