Speed dial entries not associated with a button

where and when are these used. how can you verify them once configured?

Hi Ajaz,

let's take 7941 as a n example, u have in phone configuration page under Association Information (left pane) tehse settings:

Modify Button Items

1 Line [1] - Add a new DN

2 Line [2] - Add a new DN

Unassigned Associated Items

Add a new SD

Add a new SURL

Add a new BLF SD

so u can have 2 lines per 7941, or one line and one speed dial.

now speed dial will be used when it appears on the phone display once it is configured.

but to do so and configure it (one line and one speed dial) u have to modify Button Items (click Modify Button Items Button)

Hi Ajaz,

Just to add a note to Majid's great info, when you need more Speeddials than you have spare line buttons you can add "Personal Fastdials" that do not require any Line keys. Have a look;

Configuring the Personal Fast Dials Service

You configure Personal Fast Dials by adding the service to Cisco CallManager Administration and configuring the appropriate service parameters. To configure the Personal Fast Dials service, perform the following steps.

Procedure

Step 1 Choose Feature > Cisco IP Phone Services.

The Cisco IP Phone Services Configuration window displays.

Step 2 In the Service Name field, enter the name of the service you want to display in the menu of available services on the Cisco IP Phone User Options window, for example, My Fast Dials.

Step 3 In the Service Description field, enter a description of the content provided by the service, for example, Personal Directory - Personal Fast Dials.

Step 4 In the Service URL field, enter the URL of the server where the application for the Personal Address Book service is located:

http:///ccmpd/xmlFastDials.asp

Step 5 Click Insert.

Step 6 Click the New button to the right of the Parameters list box.

The Configure Cisco IP Phone Service Parameter window appears.

Step 7 Add each parameter as described in Table A-2, beginning with UserID. When specified, enter the parameter name exactly as it appears in the table.

Step 8 Click Insert to add the parameter.

Step 9 When you have added the last service parameter, click Insert and Close to insert that parameter and close the window.

The Cisco IP Phone Services Configuration window displays.

Step 10 Click Update Subscriptions.

I understand the difference with Speed dials vs Fast dials.

In layman terms, let's say you are a user. You goto the URL

" https://hqrcipt01/ccmuser/logon.asp "

You login and are presented with list of configurable options. So you click on 'Add/Update your speed dials'.

The subsequent page has two sections; Speed dial setting on the phone, and Speed dial setting not associated with a phone button. I understand speed dials with a button, and I also appreciate that this will differ depending on the available number of physical buttons (7940 vs 7960). The buttons can provide lines (e.g DN's) or be available for Speed Dials. So all of this is clear to me.

Lets now go onto the next section ' Speed Dial Settings not associated with a phone button '.

So our regular user is thinking what is this?, anyway he/she goes ahead and programs some numbers under this section and clicks on update. So how can the user make use of this speed dial with no button?

Those buttons can be used via the abbreviated dial feature. If you program in a number on the page above, then just hit the number on the list of the number you want to dial BEFORE you go off hook. One of the softkeys on the display will change to AbbrDial. If you hit that AbbrDial softkey it will dial the number that you programed in.

Example,

list number 1 is 555-1212, you would hit 1 abbrdial and pick up the phone. The phone will then dial 555-1212.

Hope this is clear, it's easier to do then to explain!
