Speed dial softkeys for 7937 and 8831?

I'm pretty sure the answer is no for at least the 7937, but here goes.

Can you add a speed dial to either of these phones, and assign that SD to one of the 4 default softkeys?  We do this with our 7900 series desk phones so that users can have one-button access to our external conferencing service.  This is bound to the "line 2" position on the desk phones, but with the 7937, the phone button template won't allow anything in this position.  I'm wondering if there's a way around it, and additionally, whether the new 8831 conference phone has the same problem.

Sadly both the 7937 & 8831 are Single line phones

so assigning a Speed Dial to a spare line button won't

here as you most correctly noted And you cannot

customize "Softkeys" other than re-arranging the display order etc.

That's a shame.  Our users LOVE this one-button access to our audio conferencing service on their deskphones.  The only reason I used the Line 2 button was because I couldn't use a regular softkey for a speed dial.  Not that it matters, because even that doesn't work on the 7937's.

Added to my laundry list of feature requests.

To add to Rob's post (+5 Huff), I feel your pain. The conference stations have always had this limitation and I have put in a PERS requestion for programmable softkeys more than once. A few years ago I had a need to provide an "easy" to use dial in feature for accessing a conference bridge. We looked at several approachs and simply decided to create a two digit dial string that you could dial from any phone. I think we used 1# or something like that. The pattern was a translation that would transform the called party to the real DN of our conferencing service.

It wasn't exactly a one-button push (technically, it was three) and it was sort of utilitarian but the users liked it just fine.

Just a thought.

You could use the Abbreviated Dial feature to reduce the key requirement to two - e.g. 1 then AbbrDial

If you only wanted to dial the conference service you could set up PLAR as per the link below but this would be limiting as the 7937 could not dial any other number.

We're looking for something more elegant.  Essentially, we want our Unified Communications endpoints to be more 'unified' in implementation.
