Stupid question on CME/ Router IOS?

I`m trying to understand the difference in Router IOS and CME/SRST IOS. If I download an IOS say 12.4.22T and install it on a router, will it have by default CME/ SRST with it or do I need to also download the CME/ SRST IOS and install on top as well? Or do you only donwload additional CME IOS if you wish to upgrade it on the same router but keep the Router the same ?

silly question I know but bear with me

Re: Stupid question on CME/ Router IOS?

Hi IPT,

No such thing as a silly question - just silly answers :)

It is part of the IOS;

The required steps are nicely listed in this doc;

Installing and Upgrading Cisco Unified CME Software

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/admin/configuration/guide/cmeinstl.html

This thread has a nice note from Paolo!

http://forum.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Unified Communications and Video&topic=IP Telephony&CommCmd=MB?cmd=pass_through&location=outline@^1@@.1dde8b54/2#selected_message

Hope this helps!

Rob

Re: Stupid question on CME/ Router IOS?

Thanks for the reply ,  I have another question- If I purchased a new router with say  12.4.T IOS  which has CME in it . Does this mean I can access telephony Service, max-dn, max-ephone etc and it should work? or use call-manager- fallback- both should work without the need to install a CME tar file?However should I also see the contents of the CME tar file i.e if I then do a dir flash: should I see the phone loads with teh purchased router or is it only with anupgrade, install of cme? Reading other docs it seems if I do an upgrade to CME via the /xtract commend and then do a DIR FLASH: I will be able to see the files. Is there a difference between a upgrade, install of the CME tar files as opposed to a new purchased eoutwe of  12.4.T with it built in

Re: Stupid question on CME/ Router IOS?

As mentioned, CME comes with the IOS. However there are other files such as phone firmwares, and GUI files you may need to download and install separately.

I have also found this matrix helpful when looking for IOS to use with GNS3 or old lab router for learning/testing:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/requirements/guide/33matrix.htm

There is also a link there to help you know which hardware will support which versions. For example, I have an old 2611XM that I discovered would CME, but only up to version 4.1 with 25 phones.
