Transformation from CUCM Directory 2 IP Phone Ext whats the best way

CUCM Sync with AD at present

Currently numbers from corporate directory are coming through as 8 digits.

Thats the way customer wants to leave it.

Where should we perform a transformation back to 4 digit extension. So Transparently the 10 digit  directory number turns to 4 and IP phone is dialed.

1, Create Called Party Tranformation matching the 8 digits then strip to 4 digits [called party transformation mask] Place this transformation  into site specific Partition.

Would that work?

Is there a another or prefered option
