UCM licensing

All, Im curious about the licensing of UCM. I had a 50 user license that came with the UCM server. I went to add a 10 Device License, and it took out the 50 user license when I did. Im not sure why it did. I added another 10 device license file, and it appeared to work fine, by adding to 20. Any idea on why this would have happened, on why it took away the 50?

Hi John,

Sadly these 50 DLU's are for initial setup and testing only and are removed once a "Permanent" License file is loaded.Here is a clip from an excellent answer to this question from Arun @ Cisco Systems in a recent "Ask the Expert" event;

In addition to the seats, CUCM also has 50 device license units pre-populated for initial installation and configuration. DLUs should not be confused with the 50 seats that are included in the base package. The 50 device licenses are not cumulative. They will be removed from the system when purchased device licenses are uploaded on the system.
