Unity Connection - transfer rules, what is an Alternate?

What is the purpose of the Alternate transfer rule? The help files doesnt mention it and cant find anything on Google.

I ask because I am trying to a 3 step time of day call routing with a single call handler. The time of day schedules only do on or off....and I need it to be standard, then routed to someone else for 2 hours and then closed.

Managing Call Transfer Rules

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/7x/user/guide/phone/7xcucugphone150.html

Alternate Transfer Rule

Enable this transfer rule for a specific time period when you want to override the other transfer rules. For example, you may want to route all your calls immediately to voicemail while you are out of the office on vacation or you may want to transfer your calls to a different extension if you are temporarily working from another location.

When it is enabled, the alternate transfer rule is always active. It overrides all other transfer rules.

Ah, so no help for doing complex call routing. I will just have to front end it with another call handler, which is not a big deal just more steps...

Thanks.

The link below explains how to use cascading call handlers to enable open, closed and holiday greetings. The same concept can be applied to your situation. Can't be done with a single call handler to my knowledge.

Hope this helps.
