UPGRADE CUCM 8.5 IN A VMWARE to 8.6 VERSION

Hi to all

i HAVE a CUCM 8.5 cluster mode in a virtual Environment RUNNING ESXi 4.1..(UCS210)

I know that i have to follow the structure from the below link

https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-16898

BUT what happen with the ova file..i have to create a new virtual machine with the ova file for cucm 8.6?

what is the correct Procedure for (cucm 8.6 upgrade) in a virtual Environment

Notes :

I found from here OVA Template Details for Unified CM Release 8.5&8.6 that the only different from these ova files are the reservation

vCPU Cores (= Physical Cores)

for Release 8.5 = 2 (with 600 MHz reservation)

for Release 8.6 = 2 (with 800 MHz reservation)

SO ALL IN ALL

1) switch off the vmware.change the reservation

2) switch on.upload the cop file on all nodes

3) upload the upgrade software

4) upload the lic file for cucm 8.6

Are the above steps corrects?

could someone confirm that?

we use CUBE6000

Many thanks

UPGRADE CUCM 8.5 IN A VMWARE to 8.6 VERSION

Hey Chrysostomos,

I did an upgrade from 8.5 to 8.6 within VMware and it worked without any changes to the OVA template / VM machine.

As long as the COP file is installed the upgrade should be successful. I recommend that you take a full VM snapshot of the machine(s) before attempting the upgrade, this way you can roll back quickly if things go bad!

The process includes a Red Hat upgrade so lots of coffee required.... watching the progress bar ;-)

Check re the license as I'm sure you have to submit a PAK request. www.cisco.com/go/license

Good luck with your upgrade.

You DO need to change the VM settings (because as mentioned, there is a RHEL upgrade) and that is explained in the RNs which are in the link you pointed to. If you create a VM with 8.5(1) OVA and one with 8.6(1) OVA you'll see this difference.

Upgrading to Unified CM 8.6(1a)

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/rel_notes/8_6_1/cucm-rel_notes-861a.html#wp1944944

Step 3 Change the Guest Operating System to Red-Hat  Enterprise Linux 5 (32-bit).

I'd recommend you to review the whole section in the RNs before attempting the upgrade.
