using intercom and "regular" extensions w/CCME

Is there a way to get intercom like functionaliy without having two use to DNs per phone? Seems like having two DNs and two buttons is wasteful and if I recall most tradition PBX/key systems can do this using just the primary extension.

Thanks,

Diego

Re: using intercom and "regular" extensions w/CCME

Hi Diego,

The use of two seperate lines is due to the "Auto Answer" function associated with Intercom. You wouldn't be able to configure a single DN to Auto Answer for an Intercom call but not Auto Answer a non-Intercom call. It is actually recommended to include an Alpha character in Intercom DN's so that they cannot be accidentally dialed. Have a look at the suggetions in this good CME doc;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/admin/configuration/guide/cmeinter.html

Hope this helps!
