VG 224 and Toner/Probe

DOUGLAS EVANS

A client of ours mentioned that a Cisco tech told them not to use a toner/probe to trace analog telephone lines that were connected to a Cisco VG224.

Is this correct and what if so what would the reason be?

Thankyou

DJE

Hi Douglas,

We've been working with VG248's and 224's for some time now

and on many occasions have used a Tone generator and Probe

to locate lines without issue. I'm not sure where the Tech came

up with this info....I just did a thorough search of Bugs/Caveats

and install/troubleshooting docs without finding any such reference.

Cheers!

Agree with Rob (rated), do not believe such a strange recommendation.

I know this is a 10 year old thread, however I saw it thought I should mention that I would be cautious.
I've heard reports from field techs that a toner can bleed over to other ports a cause a disruption. If a critical phone like a hospital code phone is on an emergency call from a patient room (analog phone), this could be serious. This applies to VG 3xx as well. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
