VG224 port teaming?

I've always configured VG224 to use a single port (FA0/0) and of course bound media and control to that interface.  Is there a way to configure both ports to be used for redundacy?  I would like to connect 1 port to one access switch and the other to a separate one.

Re: VG224 port teaming?

I normally configure a loopback interface and use the IP address assigned to that as my destination in CUCM.

I then configure Fa0/0 and Fa0/1 as routed links (either with /30 subnets or in larger VLANs)

I then enable a dynamic routing protocol to detect link failures and route around them. If the routing protocol supports it I configure the loopback network as a stub.

Hope this helps.

Re: VG224 port teaming?

James,

You can associate the control and media binding to a loopback and it works fine?  Any drawbacks?

Re: VG224 port teaming?

Using a loopback interface works just fine.

Depending upon the protocol you configure on the gateway you may need to enter commands to tell the gateway to use the loopback. For instance on an H.323 gateway you need the following command applied on the loopback interface

h323-gateway voip bind srcaddr x.x.x.x

The main issue I run into is convincing network administrators to allow me to run a dynamic routing protocol on the gateways as they can be nervous that this can effect routing for the entire network. With careful configuration these concerns can be mitigated.
