VOIP phones with Linksys router

Hi all,

I have Rogers cable internet at home and with cable modem i have linksys router hooked. Now I want to use Cisco VOIP phone. My question is ,, can I use VOIP phone with linksys wireless router and how ? Thanks for your help..

Re: VOIP phones with Linksys router

VOIP phones have to be controlled by something to work.

You can by a Cisco router like an 1861 or UC520 and use it for CME.

Otherwise, you can download SIP firmware for the phone and try to register it to a SIP provider. You would need to find a SIP provider that would let you register the phone directly to it.

Otherwise you could set up a Unix box with Asterisks and configure that. You can do some google searching for Asterisks and your phone model and try to register it to Asterisks. For that to do anything you would need more than one phone so that you could call each other. You could then register your Asterisks to a SIP provider also.

Either way, you need some type of device to control the phone.

Hope that helps.
