vwic2-t1/e1 && vwic-t1 back-to-back connection

Hi Expert,

I'm trying to simulate a branch office with cisco2801+vwic2-t1/e1 connecting another router acting as a telco provider with cisco2801+vwic-t1, by using a back-to-back rj-48 cables.

My question is, can these two 1st and 2nd generation of VWIC connect to each other, as long the signaling protocol for both end is the same? Or both end must equip the same generation of VWIC?

Thanks

They should work.  Just make sure you have one side set as network side (providing the clocking) and other side setup as user side (receiveing clocking from line).
