You know what?   Your right :-(

I just set it up on my office demo.  I have a shared line (250) on a few phones and a 7921.

When I set the watch for the shared line on the SPA525G, its always red.

In fact, if I set a watch to a shared line on a 79xx phone, its always red, so not a phone problem.

When I set a monitor, it works better (as you probably want).  How about that instead?

I found this:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/admin/configuration/guide/cmebasic.html#wp1083629

For best results when monitoring the status of an  individual phone based on a watched directory number, the directory  number configured for watch mode should not be a shared line. To monitor  a shared line so that a receptionist can visually monitor the in-use  status of several users' phone extensions, see the "Monitor  Mode for Shared Lines" section.
