Does Cisco support RFC 6106, RA options for DNS ?

Hello:

I have read in an last year thread of this forum (https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3724408#3724408) that Cisco didn't support the RFC 6106 in order to assign DNS server to a device through RA messages.

That was an old post, so I would be gratefull if somebody can tell me if Cisco supports now these options.

If it's affirmative I would like to know which IOS version I need to could assign DNS servers to IPV6 devices

Kind regards

Pablo JC

If you have a look in this document it states that the feature is not widely supported

You can also search if it is available in Feature Navigator.

Pablo,

as of today it's only IOS XE on ASR1k that supports specifying DNS server in RA. Out of curiosity - would you be able to share your use case ? The clients by and large support both stateless DHCPv6 and RDNSS, so using stateless DHCPv6 should be ok I think ?

Thanks    sean_evershed and  Andrew Yourtchenko for your answers.

I'm only implementing IPV6 in a Microsoft Network with a Domain in Windows Server 2008 R2.

So although Stateless Autoconfiguration is ok, i need that the network clients could obtain the Address of the Domain Controler as its DNS Server, so I think I need to complement Stateless Autoconfiguration with DHCPv6

Kind regards

Pablo JC
