NAT-PT and CEF

Hi,

from Cisco web site I read this:

"Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(13)T provides a process-switched implementation of the feature. Later revisions of NAT-PT will enable CEF/dCEF switching. The packets that need only the header translations will be processed in CEF/dCEF switching mode. Like the IPv4 NAT, NAT-PT will do all the payload translations in process switching mode"

In other places I read that there is not support for CEF in NAT-PT and I should disable CEF if use it.

I need some clarification about this.

Thankyou

Gianrico,

It is NOT recommended to use NAT-PT.  It has been deprecated by the IETF in favor of NAT64.  If you need to do address family translation, please look to NAT64 as the feature to use.

That said if you are pressed into having to use NAT-PT, you will have to disable both IPv6 CEF and IPv4 CEF.  NAT-PT does not work in the CEF path for either transport.

Thankyou for you answer Jim
