Can Jabber run within a Citrix XenDesktop WITHOUT VXME on the endpoint?

Yes, I know why Cisco has the VXME client, but this customer doesn't care about the "hairpin effect".

This is the Netherlands, distances are small and ADSL home connections are very good. Delay, jitter and bandwidth are no issue.

The situation is:

  • Only one location where all the UC and Citrix servers are
  • Citrix XenDesktop home workers that need IP telephony AND Presence.
  • Most home workers have laptops, but if it would work on tablets also that is great.
  • Video is not required, but nice to have if possible.

The customer doesn't want:

  • A VXME client on the thin client
  • An extra stream besides the ICA
  • To open up his Firewall for the Jabber to VXME traffic

Citrix has published a test of Citrix XenDesktop with IP Communicator: That works great, but this customer wants to have Presence also.

  1. Is there any way Jabber can/will work without VXME?
  2. What is needed for that from Cisco perspective?
  3. Is the Citrix XenDesktop with IPC deployment (without VXME) supported by Cisco?
  4. Is a possbile Citrix XenDesktop with Jabber deployment (without VXME) supported by Cisco?

But does it work without VXME

But does it work without VXME?

Else it makes no sence to go to the account team, because they can't answer that question either.

My Channel AM nor SE have

My Channel AM nor SE have direct contacts with the BU's. I've contacted one of the product specialist, but it seems a dead end. No one can say if it would work, only that it is not supported. Citrix offers more information on such a solution than Cisco does. Very disappointing.
