Jabber 9.6 UDS "Cannot communicate with server"

My site has CUCM 8.6.1 and CUPS 8.6.1 with no option to upgrade anytime soon. My machines are not part of the domain and not an option to have them all join. Jabber for windows reports Invalid username/password if I enter it wrong but when it is correct I get a Certificate window and I hit ACCEPT then I get "Cannot communicate with server." I tried again but when ahead and installed the cert instead of just Accepting it and no improvement.

My laptops at the moment are in the same small LAN to see if this works then move on from there.

I've spent lot of time reading other posts and followed instructions on the jabber-config file, setting up DNS but the issue doesn't improve. I see DNS request and responses from the DNS server (running in Cisco router) everytime I hit Sign-In but that is all.

I continue to try again steps from other posts and Admin guides unless someone here can give me something else.

UDS wasn't introduced until CUCM 8.6(2).
