I would like to make several Jabber feature requests:
1) The ability to add custom non AD contacts..for use as a custom speed dial list. I Know you can create custom contacts in outlook, but end-users dont always want to open outlook for quick dial access.
2) The ability to disable the active call pop-up window. Users still need the client to connect to thier account for proper phone status, but some users prefer not to have the pop-up.
3) The ability to save the location of the pop-up window. If a user moves the active call window to the upper left, that is where they would like it to stay the next call.
I can tell you that both #1 (adding custom contacts, or "pizza guy" as we sometimes call it) and #3 (remembering window positions) are both on our roadmap for future releases of Jabber for Windows already.
I'm not sure I understand #2 however. Are you asking to not have a call window open on the desktop when picked up via deskphone? Please elaborate.
Yes, I have customers who find the popup window intrusive, They tend to click the close to get it out of the way and end thier call. I know this sounds like a user training issue, and I agree, but that does not stop them from requesting it to be disabled.
Theses users still want all of the click to dial features, but they do not want the active call window.
Do you have a timeframe for the new feature release?
I have several users who do not want the popup feature either. Our workaround at the moment is to remove the CTI profile from their Presence account. Of course, this kills their phone control feature completely but as long as the window is not popping up in the middle of their screen every call, they are happy.
I concur on:
I looking to disable the call pop-up windows on Jabber, have you the name of this feature in the jabber-config.xml to disable it ?
This feature request is about 5 years old and cisco is not able to implement such a simple feature... it`s really sad.
We dont use jabber anymore, i cant believe a simple option "pop up on/off" at the settings menu is such a challenge for the dev team...
last check at version 11.7.1
what pop up are you trying to disable? the incoming call pop-up or the in-call window? What version of Jabber are you running?
the in-call windows can be disabled in the xml file with the parameter:
I don't think you can disable the incoming call pop-up from the XML file (hopefully someone can prove me wrong on that) but it can be done via the Jabber options under Notifications > "all incoming calls" = false
Both custom contacts and remembering window positions will are currently scheduled to come in the release after 9.1 which should be sometime in Q1 2013.
In regards to the call window when in deskphone mode I can tell you that this is the first time we have heard this request. I again want to confirm that your customers still want deskphone control mode correct? Meaning they still want to be able to start calls from Jabber when in deskphone mode but not see any call window on the desktop. As this is a new feature for us I would ask you to submit an enhancement request so we can discuss internally and prioritize on our backlog.
It is possible that the window placement feature will satisfy some of these users, if they can permanently place the window in the upper corner.
also , I know that in CUPC (7?) they changed the red x to be a minimize to tray instead of a close window button. if the x on the active call window just minimized, that would also be a huge improvement.
Anything to push this timeline forward would be great, some of these customers are very frustrated.when comparing Jabber to CUPC 8 or even cupc 7 in the "Pizza guy" scenario.
Would the window position enhancement include always on top? I have users who loose their calls in all the open windows so to have active calls stay in focus would be great
Since we are talking pop-ups, I'd like to reiterate our request for pop-ups on chat windows. Currently, on a new chat, the window does not pop up to the front of the screen, but rather remains on the task bar and flashes.
I would like to request the pop-up of chat windows too. Most of our users do not have sound enabled and the flashing alert on the taskbar almost always gets missed. We are currently running a proof of concept and this is a real sticking point to the wider roll out. Are there any timescales for the additon of this feature.
what is the recommended procedure for customers to submit feature enhancement request? And procedure for customers to find out what's upcoming in future release? Hearing 9.1 in Q1 2013 is helpful, would be better to know what's in that release vs what's available now.
We are on 9.7 or Jabber for Windows and I still don't see a way to control the pop-ups. When making a call, the pop-up usually covers-up the very thing the user wants to talk about. This pop-up can also be sent behind by simply clicking on some other Window, but this requires a mouse click – and the user’s mouse-hand is already holding the phone!
Incidentally, users also complain about the incoming call pop-up. This takes the Windows focus and is found to be annoying when a user is just trying to finish an action prior to answering a ringing phone. The pop-up can also be sent behind by simply clicking on some other Window to bring it to the front, but if a user is typing when the phone rings (and the dialog pops-up) then any characters he is typing are lost and he has to move his hands to the mouse to change Window focus. I have surveyed users and most would rather rely only on the ring to announce an incoming call and would turn off the pop-up if they could.
There does not appear to be any way to configure, suppress or modify these pop-ups - yet according to your message above, this was slated for release in 9.6 last year. Could you please provide an update?
(Other than this, Jabber for Windows is great!)
