Microphone not working in Jabber

Lenovo ThinkPad laptop running Win 7. Inbuilt mic showing activity on level meter in Sound>Recording devices, but not on level meter in Jabber>Tools>Settings>Audio. Likewise when plugging in headset, the headset mic shows activity on level meter in Sound>Recording devices, but not on Jabber level meter when headset mic selected in Jabber>Tools>Settings>Audio. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Jabber but same result. Basically mic's function OK in Windows, but not in Jabber.

I recall there was download

I recall there was download somewhere that would allow the microphone to be used/shared by multiple applications. Considering, I am no longer in my former capacity, I don't have access to old notes/emails relating to this.
