10 Gigabit Ethernet uplinks 3750E to C3KX-NM-10G with 3750X

Hi,

I need to connect one  sw3750E with   two  3750X  , with Uplinks at 10 GBps. My doubt is the next:

Switch 3750E  has two TwinGig Adapter Converting 10 Gigabit Ethernet X2, phisically each twinGig adapter has 2 slots for SFP modules.

Can I install sfp+ If I want to use copper for Uplink at 10 Gbps, I just need to install one SFP-H10GB-CU5M transceiver ????  the other SFP slot is disabled automatically?

in the other side 3750X in order to support copper at 10 Gbps a C3KX-NM-10G network module  is considered, this will be connected to SW3750E by means of  SFP-H10GB-CU5M.

The second 3750X will be connected to second twinGig Adapter of 3750E using another SFP-H10GB-CU5M transceiver.

is it right this options ?

Hi,

It depends of what kind of TwinGig adapter you have for 3750E. There are 2 kinds:

- one that converts a 10 Gigabit Ethernet X2 interface into two Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports. This is

CVR-X2-SFP. If you have this, it will not help you!

- the one that you need is CVR-X2-SFP10G. This converts a 10 Gigabit Ethernet X2 port into a 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ port. In this way you can use SFP-H10GB-CU5M to connect to the other 3750X switches.

More detail about the CVR-X2-SFP10G module:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/prod/collateral/modules/ps5455/data_sheet_c78-547521.html

and take a look at the 10-Gigabit Ethernet transceiver Modules Compatibility Matrix:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/OL_6974.html

I hope it helps,

Bogdan

Hi Bogdan,

Thanks a lot for your answer and tips. You clear my doubt.

based on the info the solution will be:

3750E side :  2  CVR-X2-SFP10G     +   2  SFP-H10GB-CU5M    ( I want to set an etherchannel)

3750 X side : network module C3KX-NM-10G

My last doubt is why in dynamic configutarion tools the converter module CVR-X2-SFP10G is not shown  in converter module option 3750E switch.

the only  option are CVR-X2-SFP-2, CVR-X2-SFP-1, CVR-X2-SFP-NONE.

thanks once again for your help.

regards

Great!

My first impulse was to write that you can't.

But I've said...hmm..let's check:). And then I've found out from the compatibility matrix about that X2 Converter to SFP+.

I don't know why doesn't show in dynamic config.:(

Just take care that you've said you have 2x3750X conecting to 1x3750E!:) In this chase you can't make an etherchannel, unless those 3750Xs are in a stack.

If you have 1x 3750X and 1x 3750E(with 2 CVR and 2 SFP), then...etherchannel !:)

Glad to help,

Bogdan

Hi Bogdan,

I really appreciate your time for answering this case.

In fact there would be 2 switches 3750E (in a stack) and 2 switch 3750X, that`s why I guess I can set an etherchannel.

What is the distance between the two switches?

You can use a 3 meter StackWise cable (CAB-STACK-3M)

Hi Leo,

you mean to set an stack between 3750E an 3750X switches?

3750E switches will have IP services or IP base  but 3750 X will have LAN base.

Oh.  Too bad.
