10Gb fiber NIC and 2960g

Can 10Gb fiber from a 10Gb NIC in a server run on a 1000BaseSX GBIC (GLC-SX-MM) in a 2960G Cisco switch at 1Gb rate?

Or do I need a different GBIC for the 2960G, or a completely different switch altogether?

Is 10Gb backward compatible via Fiber or do I need to get a copper 10Gb NIC for that?

Re: 10Gb fiber NIC and 2960g

The 1G SFP (GLC-SX-MM) will not be able to talk to the 10GB NIC of a server. 1GB and 10GB are not auto-negotiatable.

The 2960S can support 10Gb.  3560E, 3750E/3750X also supports 10Gb.
