Can you access the MSFC right now? If yes, then send me the "show boot" from it.
Are you booting the MSFC from disk0: on the sup engine?

Can only access msfc via sess 15 command from the switch.
Here is the "sh boot" command from the msfc
HMSFC01#sh boot
BOOT variable = sup-slot0:c6msfc2-psv-mz.121-27b.e.bin,1
CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist
BOOTLDR variable = bootflash:c6msfc2-boot-mz.121-27b.e.bin
Configuration register is 0x2102

Scott,
You are hitting the following BUG on the box.
http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/bugtool/onebug.pl?bugid=CSCsc92989
Symptom:
In a Catalyst 6500 switch running in hybrid mode, when MSFC is booted from Supervisor external flash card the trunk port to the MSFC(eg. 15/1 or 16/1) comes up in errdisable state. This causes all interfaces on the MSFC to be in down/down state.
Workaround:
1. Boot the MSFC from its bootflash.
2. Downgrade to below 8.5 release.

Hi Amit,
Already booting from msfc bootflash, but the ios is loading from the slot0:.
What is the impact from reverting to 8.4 ??
Scott.
01-23-2007 07:40 AM
Scott,
You are rt now booting MSFC from the slot0: not from the MSFC bootflash. Look at this "sup-slot0:c6msfc2-psv-mz.121-27b.e.bin". The bootpath is setup to boot from Slot0:.
This is a software BUG in 8.5.5 and that's why you are looking at the erorr you have. You should be fine with the following:
1. Copy the image to MSFC bootflash and boot it from there. Change the bootpath to the follwing "bootflash:c6msfc2-psv-mz.121-27b.e.bin".
conf t
boot system bootflash:c6msfc2-psv-mz.121-27b.e.bin
2.Revert back to 8.4 CatOS on you should be fine with it.
HTH,Please rate if it does.

Hi Amit, Thanks for your help.
Do you know if we upgrade the MSFC flash from 16 Mb to 32 Mb this would solve the problem ??
01-24-2007 06:48 AM
Scott,
You need to upgrade the MSFC flash only if your current flash is unable to accomodate the IOS that you are booting from. If the IOS size is less than 16MB you can copy that to the MSFC flash and then boot the MSFC from there.
If the IOS is bigger than 16 MB, then you have to upgrade the MSFC flash and then copy the IOS and boot it from there.
HTH,Please rate if it does.
