2 NICs - OneTransmit only other Receive only

Hi,

I have a cisoc 2950 switch on which a Solaris server is connected. This server has 2 NICs. One NIC is in one network (one vlan) and the other is in another network (another vlan). Is it possible for one NIC to only receive data and the other to transmit data only. The uplink from the 2950 goes to a cisco 6500 series switch. Pls help.

Regards

Sonu

Hi,

What is the underlying requirement in your scenario? Generally you need transmit and receive to get a link up event. In addition data exchange needs all OSI layers and that means in an IP environment that communication will take place between two IPs. As your server has different IPs on the two different NICs this rules out your "one-way" requirement. So the answer to your original question is: "No, not in a normal IP environment".

So once again, what do you want to achieve with this setup? Maybe there is another solution not requiring "one-way" communication.

Regards, Martin
