Can we define assign 2 different VLANs in the same switch port?
for example:
interface gigabitethernet1/6
switchport mode access
switchport access vlan 1234
switchport voice vlan 5678

Yes, but a phone that supports CDP will only work on the voice vlan. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to pass data across the two vlans like this. The port would need to be configured as a trunk port.

Ok John...very good explanation. I think most Cisco IP phone support CDP today, so there shall not be any problem. But I will definitely check this.
