Hello,
I am really new with the use of the SLM2008 , but it can already do much more that I have expected .
The reason for this post is :
I have in the IT room 2 networks : One is on a IP Range : 10.0.0.x subnet mask 255.255.255.0
The other is on IP Range : 192.168.1.x subnet mask 255.255.255.0
If I connect the first network to PORT 2 and the second to PORT 3
connect a CAT6 cable to PORT 8
50Meters away , I would like to also put a SLM2008 where I will connect the above CAT6 cable to PORT 8 and retrieve back my to LAN's on PORT 2 and 3.
Is this possible ?
10.0.0.x :PORT 2 :------------ : :---------------: PORT 2 : 10.0.0.x
|PORT 8----------------CAT6-----------------PORT8|
192.168.1.x :PORT 3 :------------ : :---------------: PORT 3 : 192.168.1.x
I think it is possible , but I do not know how
Thank you for your help and Best Regards,
Didier.

Hello Didier,
|PORT 8----------------CAT6-----------------PORT8
Since you have 2 VLANs on each side, make the Cat6 link (port 8) between your switchs a trunk link so you can carrry both VLANs
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport trunk allowed vlan xx

See page 7/8 of the attached doc - specifically the bit about VLAN Port settings.

Hi Jon,
Thank you for your prompt reply
My problem was , I was looking for the word TRUNK , but it did not guide me to a page , but when I read more carefully I understand it know the meaning of trunk.
It will be fine for beginners like me to put the word trunk between brackets "Trunk Mode"

Didier

Hello,
When one of you find the time , can you give me a working example
I have 2 SLM2008 and 2 WRT610N on my desk.
The first WRT610N is on IP 10.0.0.1
The second WRT610N is on IP 192.168.1.1
I would like to merge both WRT610N via a SLM2008 to a second SLM2008 and have them back on the other side.
WRT610N 10.0.0.1 : PORTx PORTx : DHCP in the range of 10.0.0.x
PORTz SLM2008 ----------------------------- PORTz SLM2008
WRT610N 192.168.1.1 : PORTy PORTy : DHCP in the range of 192.168.1.x
Any help is welcome.
How more I read about VLANS , how less I understand
Thank you in advance
Best Regards,
Didier.

Hello,
Just to tell you that I managed to make it work
The only thing that they have to add in the user manual , is that you can only trunk on a SLM2008 on PORT 1 !!!
All my test I did , where on port 8, and this do not work.
Thank you all for your time.
Best Regards,
Didier.
