2509 with Octal cable - Large number of Overruns?

Hi,

Setting up a 2509 for oob console access, and am seeing large numbers of overruns:

OOB-01-SYD#sh line

Tty Typ Tx/Rx A Modem Roty AccO AccI Uses Noise Overruns Int

0 CTY - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -

I 1 TTY 9600/9600 - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -

2 TTY 9600/9600 - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -

3 TTY 9600/9600 - - - - - 1 0 0/0 -

* 4 TTY 9600/9600 - - - - - 1 78 702/2096 -

5 TTY 9600/9600 - - - - - 1 15 775/2333 -

6 TTY 9600/9600 - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -

7 TTY 9600/9600 - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -

8 TTY 9600/9600 - - - - - 5 3340 0/0 -

9 AUX 9600/9600 - inout - - - 2 0 0/0 -

* 10 VTY - - - - - 10 0 0/0 -

11 VTY - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -

12 VTY - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -

13 VTY - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -

14 VTY - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -

I've tried a different octal cable, but still seeing overruns.

Then on a 2960 switch connected via console to one of the octals, I see large number of overruns also:

#sh line

Tty Typ Tx/Rx A Modem Roty AccO AccI Uses Noise Overruns Int

* 0 CTY - - - - - 0 2 0/30755582 -

What would be causing this, and is there anything I can do(Config-wise) to stop the overruns - As "sh run" on a connected switch stops after about 17 lines (If I reboot the 2509, it will allow correct console access to connected switches for approx a day before becomming unusable again)

Thanks in advance.

Hello John,

post sh ver and configuration of lines.

There are some commands that may need to be added.

Hope to help

Thanks Giuseppe - I believe I have found a solution.

Enabling software flow control on the connected switches line con 0 has stopped the overrun number increasing(Well for the last few hours anyway)
