2610xm rommon version

I have seen documents on cisco.com that say you need to upgrade your 2610xm rommon to version 12.2(8r) in order to support 256 mb of ram.

Now, I have a 2610xm with rommon 12.2(7r) and a single 128 mb ram in one slot, so presumably I can add another simm to get 256 mb ram. Should I upgrade or should I leave it alone?

hello ahmed

Is this the doc u saw ?

http://cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps259/prod_bulletin0900aecd801e3d53.html

I guess you have to upgrade the rommon to the suggested version before the DRAM upgrade. I have seen in some other docs too, that you will need the correct version of rommon for memory upgrade. So, the safest & the only option is to upgrade the rommon.

hope this helps. all the best. rate replies if found useful.

Documents also suggest that older 2610xm's only accept 64mb simms in each slot for a total of 128mb.

My guess is that 12.2(7r) is a beta version of 12.2(8r). It accepting 128mb simms in one slot and seems to be running correctly. I stands to reason that it will accept another 128 mb simm in the other slot for a total of 256 mb.

Hello ahmed,

see this URL too:

quite helpful.. i have also seen in some tac case notes, on the same problem, that the rommon version has to be upgraded before u upgrade to 256 MB.. prople have actually seen that the memory never exceeds 128 MB even though they have the hardware installed... so, i guess u need to follow as to what is given in the doc..

hope this helps.. all the best. rate replies if found useful..
