2811 and Modem

Hi There;

I am looking for a way to test the communication between a modem and a serial RS422 connection on a 2811. I can successfully ping the serial interface by activating the loopback command, but is there a way to test communication to the modem without actually dialing up? For instance - a ping to the modem would be ideal - but there's no ip address associated with the modem! So how can this be done?

Regards

You don't route traffic to the modem, just like you don't route traffic to your phone line. The connection is strictly layer1.

You can assign an IP address to certain modems for remote management purposes, however these modems have a dedicated port for such tasks, they don't use the serial port.
