2924M-XL-EN Vlan trunking and routing

I have a 2924 with Version 12.0(5)WC14 IOS, and I have 3 different vlans. I am looking to route between 2 of these vlans.

I have a linux machine with one network card, and I am not sure if what I am trying to do is possible, but here is the idea:

I configure a trunk port to trunk the 2 vlans I want routed. I then create 2 sub-interfaces on the linux machine, one on each vlan, and route between them.

The question is will the trunk port with 802.1q encap support this type of setup? I am pretty sure the linux box will support 802.1q, so getting the sub-interfaces on each vlan I think should work.

Thank you,

Ryan

Ryan,

I don't know much about linux but if it has the capability to route between VLANs then your conifguration should work. In Cisco world, the configuration you are trying to use is called router-on-a-stick. Basically, your linux box is playing the role of a Cisco router here.
