2950 Class Of Service (COS)

I understand there is COS available on the 2950. However, it depends on the type of software that it is running. There is an EI and SI version available. How are one tell, by looking at the output for the sho ver if the 2950 will support the COS.

Here is the example of a sho ver from one of my 2950s. How can I tell if it supports COS?

Re: 2950 Class Of Service (COS)

Hello Doug,

your switch is running Standard image SI

see the line

>>Running Standard Image

so I'm afraid it doesn't support QoS.

Hope to help

Re: 2950 Class Of Service (COS)

The distinction between SI and EI versions is based on the hardware:

SI versions:

The Cisco Catalyst 2950SX-48, 2950T-48, 2950SX-24, 2950-24 and 2950-12 switches (Figures 1-5) are available only with the Standard Image (SI) software for the Cisco Catalyst 2950 Series. They cannot be upgraded to the Enhanced Image (EI) software.

• Cisco Catalyst 2950SX 48 Switch-48 10/100 Mbps ports with two fixed 1000BASE-SX uplinks

• Cisco Catalyst 2950T 48 Switch-48 10/100 Mbps ports with two fixed 10/100/1000BASE-T uplinks

• Cisco Catalyst 2950SX 24 Switch-24 10/100 Mbps ports with two fixed 1000BASE-SX uplinks

• Cisco Catalyst 2950 24 Switch-24 10/100 Mbps ports

• Cisco Catalyst 2950 12 Switch-12 10/100 Mbps ports

EI versions:

Cisco Catalyst 2950 Series switches consist of the following devices, which are only available with Enhanced Image software for the Cisco Catalyst 2950 Series.

• Cisco Catalyst 2950G 48-48 10/100 ports and 2 Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC)-based Gigabit Ethernet ports

• Cisco Catalyst 2950G 24-24 10/100 ports and 2 GBIC ports

• Cisco Catalyst 2950G 24-DC-24 10/100 ports, 2 GBIC ports, DC power

• Cisco Catalyst 2950G 12-12 10/100 ports and 2 GBIC ports

• Cisco Catalyst 2950T 24-24 10/100 ports and 2 fixed 10/100/1000BASE-T uplink ports

• Cisco Catalyst 2950C 24-24 10/100 ports and 2 fixed 100BASE-FX uplink ports

SI version provide a very limited CoS, see http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk389/tk813/technologies_q_and_a_item09186a00804976d3.shtml
