I'm trying to connect to another network that is running on a hp procurve 5406zl.
I created a VLAN on my cisco switch and gave it an IP adddress. I had the admin of the procurve do the same on his switch.
Is there anyway I can get these two network to talk to eachother like this or do I need to go through a router?

If they are both in the same VLAN then this should work as long as the two addresses are in the same subnet. Is the link between the two devices configured as an access or a trunk port?

They are not same VLAN but same subnet.
Cisco VLAN has ip address of 172.20.94.2
HP VLAN ip address is 172.20.94.1
both are access ports and I cannot ping the HP vlan IP 172.20.94.1 from the cisco switch or vice versa.

That is probably the reason why it is not working. Why not have them in the same VLAN?

The switches are not trunked together so I didn't think they would need to be on the same VLAN. How will the switches even know its passing untagged traffic right?
