Hello,

I have a few 3524XL Switches and was just wondering what the difference was between the 3500 and the 3500 XL.

Cheers.

Hi,

What do you mean about 3500? 3500XL are the catalyst series switches. There are 3500 cisco aironet which is AP (wi-fi). Also there are 3550, 3560 catalyst switches.

Best regadrs,

Alex

Oh right,

Well I was told that the 3524XL couldn't do 802.1x auth.

So I assumed there was a 3500 catalyst and a 3500XL.

Is there a grid or a page that shows every catalyst with specs even the old ones?

Here is a list 3500 series models.

They are all end-of-life and end-of-sale starting in 2002.

I seriously doubt they support 802.1x, but you can probably find more info based on the version of the IOS you are running.

Cheers, I think the 3550 support 802.1x. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3550/software/release/12.1_8_ea1/configuration/guide/sw8021x.html

I gathered they would be EOS. So what does the XL mean?

As you seem to get 3524XL and the 3550 with no XL

Sorry to misinform you.  The version you have does support 802.1x (+5)

I wouldn't be recommending 2900/3500XL in an enterprise-level switch anymore.

Nah, its cool, its just for labing and testing. So do we know what the XL means on the XL switches?

I'm not sure.  Could mean "X" for extra memory and "L" is for LAN.
