one of our 3500xl switches running ios12.0 reboots a random time intervals. it's happened after a few minutes, or hours. we took the switch out of service and installed a replacement.
i scanned for known bugs but nothing came up.
any ideas?
sounds to me like a hardware issue.
however, at startup, it passes all the POST.
tnx

Hi,
Do you get the logs of reload ? Or show logs what does it show ?
Does the show flash shows any crash info ?
Let us know if there is any crashinfo for the switch.

the log shows the reload w/ no errors nor warnings.
show flash: shows a few images, config.text,...
nothing indicating strangeness.
i have it on my desk now, plugged into a console, powered on w/ no nodes connected.
it's behaving, but not especially useful.
no reboots for a few days.
i'll probably plug in some non-production stations and see how it behaves.

Its probably some component on the hairy edge of failure and this happens . Those switches are ancient and is probably 10 years old at this point.

yes, it's vintage 8-nov-2000.
i just got funding to graduate to a 4500 chasis
and retire a whole bunch of the standalone switches from our backbone.

the logs show a normal reload w/no hint of what initialed it.
sho flash just shows the healthy following:
ios bin
diag bin
html dir
env_vars
vlan.dat
config.text
