3850 port status light goes orange unexpectedly

CrackedJack1

Level 1

I've got a new 3850 and when I add/remove vlans on a trunk port, the light on the port turns orange but the trunk continues to work. If I undo the change, sometimes the light will do back green, sometimes it won't. Despite the light being orange, it doesn't seem to affect connectivity.

Connected to the console of the switch, i don't see any messages about interfaces going up/down so I think this may be a cosmetic bug. If I pull the cable and put it back on the light is green again.

I'm running 3.2.2

Has anyone else seen this behaviour? I called TAC and the guy on the phone didn't find any notes about this and it appears I was using the correct commands.

I'm thinking it's a bug (minor but still a little worrying if you see an orange light but there's no connectivity issue). Does anyone else see this behaviour and if so, how do I submit a bug to cisco?

It could be line errors.

Post the output to the following commands:

1.  sh interface ; and

2.  sh controll e

Sorry for the late reply, was a little crazy last week.

Below is the output you request, before and after I made a change. (I also tried on a port channel and same problem)

Then I added and removed a vlan and the port is orange but I can still ping the switch just fine on all vlans for that port.

I've noticed the same behavior. I created a trunk between a 3750G to a 3850 using copper ports and the trunk is working fine, but the port is amber on the 3850 and green on the 3750G.

Kind of strange probably a bug.

My 3850 does have some unknown protocol drops, but this is cosmetic per Cisco TAC and should be fixed with the new code.

Interestingly I just setup a WLC2504 connected via trunk to a 3850.  Port was green until I restricted the VLANs then it went yellow.  Working fine with no errors but.......  Note... The vlans do exist and have been around for years.
