4506 Problem utilizing VTP mode v2 for 1006-4096 VLANs

I'm trying to implement extended vlans on two core switches that are VTP servers, but am unsuccessful. The switches have SupIV's with 12.2(25)EWA8 code, and have VTP domain and passwords set. Also VTP mode V2 is enabled on both, as well as the "spanning-tree extend system-id" command enabled.

I find that I can add an extended vlan to either core (Example vlan 1112), but the vlan is not propagated to the other Core switch, which is also set as a VTP Server. Vlan additions from either Core switch succesfully create/distribute to the adjacent VTP server for vlans <1005, so I know the VTP Domain, VTP Password, and turnking between the switches is working.

When I do a "show spanning-tree summary | include extended" there is no data. Troubleshooting on Cisco site states I should see, "Extended system ID is enabled"

I have looked at the following Cisco site and have followed the configuration examples.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/12.1/13ew/configuration/guide/spantree.html#wp1044866

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

-Scott

While the switch itself supports 4096 VLANs, extended range vlan IDs are not propagated via VTP. You must add these vlan IDs manually to each device.

That is weak and a shame. I might as well run transparent mode on all switches.

Even worse, I could not find a link anywhere on Cisco's site stating that extended vlans <1025-4096> are not propagated by VTP.

Enabling VTP version 2 should have the intelligence programmed into the new protocol to increase the quantity of vlans that can be propagated from a VTP server.

I'd like some cheese with my whine....

Well, actually:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/12.2/37sg/configuration/guides/vlans.html#wp1038758

VTP v3 does support extended vlans but AFAIK its only available on CatOS.

Thanks....Here's a document I found on British Telecom's site stating that V3 only works on 6500's.

I wish I could say how nice to have a newer vtp v3 standard that's only compatible with one series of switches.
