4948 and BGP

Hi,

My client has a pair of 4948's with statics in a Data Centre terminating a number of WAN access circuits via firewalls and now has a requirement to run BGP and route reflectors on the 4948's. There would be a total max throughput of only around 400Mb, a very small route table and around 6 peers.

It may be necessary to redistribute the BGP into OSPF as well.

This box wouldnt have been my first choice in this application but as its there will it serve this purpose without any issues please?

Probably depends on what image it is running , if has the advanced image it should handle it without a problem , if it has a base image you may have to upgrade the IOS .

Agree with glenn.. you need to have an ENHANCED L3 DES/3DES (OSPF,EIGRP,IS-IS) to support BGP.. but keep in mind that the 4948 was actually designed for a enterprise/datacenter server farm switch and it can support a maximum of 32 K routes .... make sure you take care of the routes taken via BGP.. Arent there any other core routers for runnig BGP?
