6500 Overlapping IP Behavior?

6500 with SUP2/MSFC2/PFC2

IOS 12.2(18)SXD2

I have an IP subnet of 172.16.0.0/16 on vlan 1 and just configured a vlan 145 interface and bound 172.16.145.0/24 to it. When I did that I get a message that vlan 145 IP overlaps with vlan 1. No problems yet, but I haven?t ?no shut? int vlan 145. I have no 172.16.145.x hosts on vlan 1

Question:

How does a 6500 handle this scenario? Is there any bugs or weirdness? Anything else I should be aware of that will happen when int vlan 145 is brought up?

Hi

I'm sure you know this is'nt a valid configuration, i dont believe you would be able to successfully have both L3 interface up at the same time.
