6500 redundancy and slow sho run

We have a pair of 6500 switches each with one supervisor.   Whenever we do a show run or write memory it can take up to ten minutes to complete and sometimes it doesnt complete and says that the configuration cannot be accessed at this time and try again later.

Im not seeing anything in the CPU or processes that would keep it busy.

Ive tried turning off aaa and no change

On these switches we have this redundancy config

redundancy

main-cpu

auto-sync running-config

mode rpr

On other 6500 pair which are idnentical hardware and dont have the same issue we have this setup

redundancy

main-cpu

auto-sync running-config

mode sso

What is the difference between the mode sso and rpr  and would make any difference to change to sso?

Let me make sure I understand you correctly:

You are running two 6500's with a single Sup Engine:

If this is the case why are you using the mode rpr as well as mode sso, these commands are for redundant Supervisor Engines.

Unless you are running VSS between the 2 6500's, is this the case?

It sounds like you can possibly be having a RAM issue on one the 6500's, I would recommend opening a TAC Case with cisco and get them to take a look at this ASAP.  Hopefully you have A Smartnet Contract on this : )

Let me know if this helps

ok thanks - I was wondering that too.

But its happening on both routers

I will open a TAC case then

thanks
